Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Time Lapse (Advanced Editing VI ("Time Lapse")*)
Camera: Nikon D3
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II
Location: Home - Singapore , open field next door
Date: Jan 6, 2008
Aperture: F8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/400s
Galleries: Family, Action
Date Uploaded: Jan 6, 2008

Original shots in JPG.
Combined 3 consecutive shots of my eldest son Nathan performing his
Jumping back kick on an early Sunday morning (he is 13). Taken handheld
with no flash (wanted to test my new D3)

In post processing , I intentionally seperated each sequence slightly
seperated to see the spinning action clearer
Had to do some serious selection / erasing putting them together , other
than that minor color corrections, slight sharpening.

Also was taken with my new Nikon D3 , boy am I HAPPY with
this camera. As I was using my 18-200 Nikkor DX lens with a
crop rate of 1.5, this shot was only at 5.1 MP (I did not have a full frame
wiide angle lens with me) Even then the detail was excellent !!
Taken at ISO400 , practically grainless (Noise reduction on camera was
turned off) and did NOT do any noise reduction at all during post
processing.

Nice kick and good capture of it. I think you would have benefited with a different background to help add more visual interest. Even taken at a dojo with his uniform on would have added more to it. Good technical aspects of the photo though.

Pretty good. I think a narrower vertical crop might give or of an impression of movement. The crop is almost a square without being one exactly, but that's a personal preference, really.

I think the capture here is very good. The only drawback is the background, it doesnt add anything to the photo.

Perhaps catch the landing and put it in there as well. The sky seems blown out to me and the grass looks rather brown. Interesting take, though.

he's got some height and great form on that kick! great job catching it, too! my personal taste would be that there were some colour in the sky but great job, overall :)

All that without his glasses falling off? There is a great future for this boy.

Wow that is quite a kick. I wish he landed facing the camera.

ursula: that ain't natural. some little kid like that kicking the crap out of you? that ain't natural.

muckpond: that's totally natural! I saw it on TV!

scalvert: I've got to admit. there's some pretty cool physics to this.

GeneralE: yes, and it's one motion.

muckpond: and a totally butt-kicking motion, too!

That is cool. Too bad there wasn't much in the sky for you. You might also try boosting your colors (or contrast if it doesn't wash out his pants) to give this shot a little extra.

Good concept, good captures - wrong place to shoot it. The blown out sky and pea-soup shade of green in the bottom half really take the photo down a notch or three.

nice idea well done. It's a shame the sky isn't darker or his trousers a different colour so they contrast a bit more

Great action sequence here. You really nailed the challenge. Exposure is good. At first I didn't like the washed out sky, but then I saw how the red shirt contrasts against it and didn't mind it near as bad. Overall I great image that meets the challenge and deserves an 8.

Very cool. Must have taken a lot of takes to get this just right.

Good action, though the blown out sky has let you down badly.
