This needed quite a bit of work to make it presentable - cropped, converted from RAW, monochrome in channel mixer, USM and curves.

I was down at the beach snapping a nice sunset that had appeared to the right of this scene when I saw these Christmas walkers out at low tide. The image just popped out at me and I swiftly changed from my wide-angle to my new telephoto and grabbed a few shots at about 250mm. The hills in the background are actually those of the Isle of Wight, clearly visible from the beach on a good day.

I really feel very fortunate to have got this shot - I didn't have time to change the settings on the camera so I was stuck with a longish exposure (hence the slight blur on the middle person) and this was the only shot that was usable in the circumstances. The result speaks to me on many levels and is I think as 'out of the box' as I've ever been.

The blur combined with the reflection really add emotional depth to your shot here...a meaningful and wonderfully processed shot...

Again, note the difference between the commenters and the average score. Your work definitely strikes a chord in a subset of viewers/voters. I was one of your 8s on this one. You have a very good eye, and you did a great job with this shot, both in capturing it and presenting it.

the quirky-but-still-balanced composition helps this.

I like how even though he's alone, he still has his reflection! : )

This meets the challenge well. I'd crop the lower part of this image below the water with the reflection.

I like this very much. The photo fits the challenge well, with the dual contrast of the technicals, and of the concept. The only thing I would change (and this really is a pernickity niggle) is the white trainers of the lone man. 10 from me.
