 Hi and thank you so much to you all for voting and your kind comments. I am very proud of this shot which was one of the first I took with my new Nikon D3 on the 15th December 2007. I only received the camera on the 12th Dec 2007 after a long wait. It was more the camera than me that allowed me to capture this image. The 9 frames per second and high ISO with low noise (ISO 2000) in this image is testament to the quality of the D3.

Sadly, I had a problem with the clock battery being faulty on the camera when delivered. It took I while for a replacement to be posted to me. It was only after I submitted my original to DPC that I looked at the metadata and realized the date stamp is wrong, so I guess I'll be disqualified. A real bummer as this is my PB by a long chalk. Oh well. That'll teach me.

Your submission must be taken after the challenge is announced and before the deadline, based on the Current Server Time (US Eastern Standard Time) displayed at the bottom of every page on this site. You must ensure that your camera date and time are correctly set to your local time zone before shooting your entry. If the date recorded in your original image file is not within the specified challenge dates, your entry will be disqualified -- NO exceptions!

Congrats on a great shot to have in your portfolio! The DQ is rough, but that doesn't mean anything about the shot itself.

but just to ask what kind of a crop is this ? (how big in the FX frame ?)

Excellent capture. It's really sharp and I like the contrast with the sky. It's a pity about all the rocks at the bottom of the frame.
