 My bestest of friends gave me a book photographing birds "Nat'l Geographic Field Guide" consequently trying out some tips & techniques.. One of them being to catch expressions..
May have gone overboard w the bg.

Not sure about the BG either but wow! that expression is sure worth it. You put the advice to good use!

Love the bird's pose and expression. Not too fond of the BG, seems cut and pasted in spots. But the bird is just excellent.

This is a great bird shot. The background is just right, and the yawn is a very good catch. I like that the bird is standing on one leg too. Many birds sleep that way. I thought it was two birds in the thumb sized image.

OMG this is brilliant ... to get birds 'expressions' would be an interesting thing to try ... i think their expressions are more a result of the way they align their heads and bodies tho ..
this if a fantastic shot .. is he just incredibly bored ?? ... or possibly extremely angry ?? ... or does he see something just out'v the pic that has evoked in him a feeling of great danger and he's warning his nearest and dearest .. ?? .. that tongue is a killer .. love the colours .. :) ..

Whoaaa! That's really freaky when you first look at it, then it's just hilarious! lol At first I thought there was another bird behind it or something, then realized what it was. Very funny.
