Donna

I thought this picture was really underrated, I share your dilike of SP's (you better believe my teeth were gritted for mine) and the idea of focussing on the camera rather than yourself was (imo) great. To be fair I had though it was a little noisy, but far better than the score suggests

Oh, well,. The idea was that a hobbyist (as opposed to an artist - I was playing off the title "Portrait of the Artist") focuses more on the tools of the hobby (and not just in photography) than on internalizing it.
Appaerntly I did better at showing my subject than I thought. It wasn't my intention to show it, but melethia saw right through me. part of why I am behind the camera is so that I'm not in the pictures (I hate pictures of me, lol).

You should've looked into the lens instead of at the view screen on your camera. That way we could see your eyes. BB

I feel this seems a bit noisey and soft.

I think composition here is ok, even colors are fine, but focusing on the lens is not good enough. A bit dark photo overall. Next time I am sure you'll do much better ;)

I like the idea behind your SP, however would have liked to see more of you in the shot. Nice work.

What I like about this is how it signifies to me a photographer's strong preference to be behind the camera, not in front of it (though there are exceptions!).

Kinda grainy & kinda plain. The lens is the most interesting part of the photo, which really isn't the goal of a self portrait.

It says something about your passion and I think a self portrait should be about who you are.

Is this a portrait of you or the camera?

No, portrait of the camera of the hobbyist. It's (more) in focus.

Appears to be more of a photo showing off the Fujinon lense... wish the focus was on you
