Since we've only eaten out about 127 times in the last week, we figured we shouldn't break our streak. Tonight was Texas Coral. This is one of those places where it has a Texas/roadhouse theme and you get a bucket of peanuts. You eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor.

Comments heard during dinner:
"You threw those nuts right between my legs!"
"My nuts taste bad or old, how do your nuts taste?"
"Perfect shot throwing that nut!"

I didn't have any pictures for the day so I took my camera in figuring I'd get something. I only had the 50mm since I didn't want a bit ol' honkin' lens on the camera. I had to take the bucket and put it under the light to take the shot. I chose B&W because the original picture was completely red and I didn't want to spend all night getting rid of the color cast.

If you ever want to see a good example of how our brains automatically set white point, go to a place that has a lot of red neon and then take a picture. It's amazing how we compensate for off colors.

great story! love the textures and b&w is perfect here. I just wish that the foreground was a little more in focus.

this shot is calling for a cold beer to be beside the bucket. Great shot and B&W was a great choice.

I love throwing things on the floor and it makes it more fun when they tell you to do it. And that 50 mm 1.8 is a wonderful lens, for $70.

LMAO Thanks for the laugh first thing this morning. I didn't think you were really going to put those comments in your post. :oP I wouldn't have wanted to sit all night and try to remove the color cast either. It all worked out though because this picture looks great in B&W. Nice composition and I like how only a few of the peanuts are in focus.

Beautiful lighting and dof.

Yeah, I noticed that WB brain thing when taking pics of the kitten in the christmas tree at work today.

Years ago, I was eating dinner with a co-worker...Same deal, peanuts, shells on the floor. But when you sit down, the waiter or in our case, waitress comes over and tosses some peanuts on your table. My co-worker tossed one back. She said "If you do that again, I'll have to remove your nuts!"...Good job in less than ideal conditions...Works well in B&W.
