This is kind of a dull picture but it truly is a slice of my life right now.

Today we got a new kitchen floor installed. When we moved into this house five years ago the flooring wasn't in the best of shape. Over the years with all the traffic and parties with people traipsing in and out of the house the floors have started to look terribly bad. So, we finally went ahead and decided to get new flooring for our kitchen and dining room area.

In this picture you see the new laminate floor. Unfortunately, the salesman didn't correctly measure the way we wanted the laminate to enter into the dining room and the guys installing the laminate ran out before they could completely finish the kitchen. We have about a foot to a foot and a half that still needs to be finished on one side, hopefully within the next couple of days. :o( At any rate, it still looks really nice! BTW, the specks on the laminate are particles of wood dust from the cutting of the stuff.

The carpet you see in the background is the dining room area. The carpet is kind of the color of brownish blue with dark dots versus the light grayish blue it should be. lol We are having a wine/burgundy color put in there later this week. I can't wait to see the two rooms all done.

I will try to share it all with you when it is all done. A little side note: never agree to the price these places first quote you. They originally quoted us about $2895 then when we asked for a better price they came down to $2495. The salesmaan said this was the lowest he could go. We told him we were going to look around some more. After a week and a half we get a postcard in the mail for an offer of $2095. I called them up and said we were really trying to keep it at $2000 and they knocked another $95 off. That included tax and all. I guess my point is to hold out and if they really want the business they will come down in price.

My brother subcontracts through Lowe's to do floors like this. I guess since he is not the "salesman" the haggling over the price is not an issue, but he will quote you a price for your floor, then it costs pretty much what he quotes you. So, if they don't come down, it may be because they can't, no matter how badly they want your business. :)

Congrats on the new floors. I bet the carpet will look great.

Congratulations on the new floor. the angle is very interesting rather than a simple bend at the waist and shot your feet type shot. And it is just in time for the Christmas baking.

Nice capture and I'm glad my wife doesn't have a camera... I'd be playing the part of salesman and installer :)

Woohoo!! Congratulations on both your floor and your negotiating skills. Can't wait to see the new carpet! Burgundy will take a while to look worn, unlike pale gray, which is what I also have.

This picture is so realistic I can actually smell the sawdust! Oh wait... I actually DO smell it.

You did a good job capturing this because this is exactly how it looks!
