Grain ships are a way of life here. Anheuser Busch has a malting facility in downtown Manitowoc. This one was on it's way to Sturgeon Bay for winter dock after its offload.

It was really cold and dreary today, and the big snowstorm of the year was was coming in. I wish I could have taken more time with this.

First, let me say WELCOME! I've only been here for 9 months and I've virtually met a lot of cool, nice people. Seeing their work and trying hard to be as good is probably the best training class you can get.

I really like your composition and how you use the line of the dock to lead us through the image. Nice job. I would love to see this with a little more contrast, by tweaking Curves in Photoshop or Elements. Something to try for the snowed in days!

Dang that angle makes the ship look HUGE.

I really like your perspective here; I bet you'll get some great ice/snow pictures later this month.

I like the strong leading lines here, especially the cable running to the boat. The frozen in action water on the ship is also a very nice detail. I remember those winter skies and they look just like that. The only thing that picks at my eye is the tower not being parallel with the photo's edge; but that's just me.

Like your composition very much...leading the eye to the back. The different colors on the boat are textured and fun. (we are now expecting the storm you got..I'm in Vermont)

The towline really draws your eye towards the ship. Great angle to convey the hugeness of the ship.

Love the perspective. That ship looks impressive and the weather looks cold and wet.

I love the perspective but the backfround is a bit soft for me. A bit more contrast would probably make it pop quite a bit as well. Love the leading line. It took me a while to realize that there is snow on the ground.

it does look cold and dreary .. great perspective going on ..
learning post processing is often just a matter of trial and error and spending A LOT of time at it .. suggestions from ppl who'v been there are always a good way to speed up the learning process ..
if you were at the very beginning of learning i'd suggest that you play around with the adjustment layers in your layers palette .. i'm sure other ppl will have other suggestions .. its a very individual thing of course . have fun .. if it snows for a long time you'll just get better and better . :)

Great angle! Really conveys how huge, and ratty, this ship really is. Looks cold and forbidding there, too. Very Nice!

Nice perspective. I actually work near a commercial Port and see a lot of freight ships and still love taking photos of them.

You've got a good perspective here but I get the feeling the photo could use a bit more contrst, it seems a bit washed out now.
