My wife's pretty geeky, so I got her a rubix's cube. Wouldn't you know, she already knew how to solve it. It's pretty simple once you get the moves down.

The challenge mentions yellow and purple, but I prefer yellow and blue as contrasting. I hope I don't get dinged for it.

I also tried a tighter cropping, but I didn't like it.

This picture is actually taken on it's side. I like this angle better, but the edge of the blue looks a little soft. I hope I don't get dinged too much for that.

Post Challenge:
Oops. What was I thinking. Before I uploaded, I did a slight rotation and didn't notice the white background border. Oops, I guess I've learned something.

this is good but the background has some blue in it to the right above the cube that is distracting but good

Um, no. Yellow's complement is purple, and blue's is orange.

Nice photo, but shouldn't it be blue/orange? Think the white borders (due to rotation?) give extra attention to all the dust here.

The crop feels too tight. Definately vibrant colours though!

good pic, but blue and yellow aren't complementary colors...

it looks like yellow not orange

Not sure if yellow-blue are actually complementary colors.

Great Idea, perhaps it would look better if it was on a diagonal?

It's supposed to be orange, but this is a great shot. Very centered. There is a scratch or something on the side, but that is hardly noticeable! Nice shot!

not a bad attempt. Got the colors well. 1. It doesn't feel like its in focus. 2. remove the corners where you rotated the image. I am guessing you need to adjust your monitor. 3. clean the surface the subject is setting on (black marks on the right side) I like how you rotated the image to give it a floating feel. There is also a hair floating on the top . 3. White balance adjustment or a levels adjustment would bring your background to a more white (less blue).

yellow and blue are not complementary, but i'm probably not the only person to say this

should be complimentary, not contrasting, and should be either blue orange, or purple yellow, but i do like the idea -5

blue and ORANGE, yellow and PURPLE

when you rotated the photo you didn't crop it right. I can see the white areas on the sides. very bad editing imho.
