Thank you all for voting favorably on a less than technically sound picture. I appreciate all the comments. There should have been a light behind the subject. It was late and my model had time for only one shot.

I thought of doing this picture the real way using a strobe, but quickly found out that the miniscule mass of a kernel would not allow for it to be propelled more than a couple of inches upwards, no matter how hard you catapulted it with the spoon, so, I had to hang the kernels using black thread.

The set up was in darkness except for a continuous light snoot illuminating the model's hand and arm. During the first second and a half of exposure the model lowered his arm and hand over the spoon slowly, at the end of the second second, a monolight was triggered by the camera set to rear curtain flash, that was it. I did play with curves and selective color in photoshop to try and even the color temperature difference between the arm/hand and the face (tungsten vs. flash), it came out close but not perfect.

My gratitude to Manuel for modeling and my daughter Marisa for helping me hang the kernels.

This would be my only 10 in this challenge. By far the most creative, dpc style, approach. It should be in the top 3.

Well done! Very cool - I imagine that the kernels are actually suspended on fishing line, but this is VERY well done. Good luck.

LOL it already has the validated seal of approval on it. :) I like the shot. I would love to see some description on how it was done. I have an idea, but would love to see it. Now on the shot. The lighting hurts the shot a little for me. The back of our popcorn pal especially the hair gets lost into the background which for some would probably be perfect but IMO it detracts. Still a FUN FUN shot and I can't wait to hear how you did it.

cool shot, maybe I would have worked on the skin tones alittle, desaturating or lightening the reds some.

Repeating flash? Wonder how many tries this took? Maybe wires holding a series of kernels across the frame? Nice composition.
