A little trip around the streets tonight to pilfer a rose from an unsuspecting neighbour led to this photo.

I then came home and, feeling the need, constructed myself a softbox for the shot.

The shot itself was taken on top of a white sheet of paper, then post processed (almost) to my liking.

PP:
A little desaturation
Levels
Bring back a little red in the flower
Concrete in Soft Light @ 40%
More concrete in Soft Light @ 100%
Border in Overlay @ 50%
Merge all layers, duplicate and set to multiply
Mask flower
Repeat
Bring back even more red
Darken center of flower
Add text
Darken edges

The knife provides an interesting tension in the image. Thanks for outlining your process!

I like the idea..Did you place the knife below the rose for composition or because it has already sliced through the rose (heart)..?

Terrific. I'd never think of a rose from you hee hee. The knife adds as well as the terrific cracks. I want to say "Phantom of the Opera"esque!!! Nice one.
