 Hiking on top of Ester Dome, noticed clumps of cones on busted alpine spruce trees, and remembered texture challenge. Snapped shot as sun was setting, around 2:30 pm.. hey, it's Alaska..

Parts of the shot look oversaturated (the cones) while some look just right (green leaves) and some look too bright (light leaves). I like the contrast on the cones as it brings out their texture nicely.

Great tones here. Sufficient space for the eye to wander through the frame, and never loses the attention. Even with what appears to be quite direct lighting, your contrast work and colour has presented a great feel of these things.

The out of focused branch on the right distracts a bit I think

The sunset gives a nice, warm color as well as bringing out the texture. I like the edges of the petals as a frame, except the one on the right that is out of focus and too far into the picture.

Very fitting to the subject, nice texture. Might benefit from slightly closer cropping to get rid of the distracting pale fuzzy near branch on the right hand side.

+ Great macro and composition to show us all the details. You certainly meet the challenge.
- I would have prefered a slightly darker image; especially the lower part of the photo is a little too light for my liking.
