Those who see only beauty are blind.
......................................

Score went down from 6.7 to 6.58 in the last hour, sucks. I would have liked to see this as my new PB, it's my favorite shot to date.

Anyway, as for editing-

Lots of RAW maniupulation. Original was overexposed with crappy tungsten lighting at ISO 1600, so there were sever technical flaws that needed to be dealt with. Fortunately, they were correctable with RAW.

Now the real post processing starts.

Lots of levels, darkening of the shadows and mid tones.

Desaturation 50 percent

Made a new layer for the eyes, changed the colour and contrast and brightness, and masked them in.

Variations filter to face layer, more yellow and "darker".

Lots of curves for more contrast.

Unsharp masking.

Dodging and burning, especially the wrinkles.

Not much else, its not that complicated a job but the end result is great.

Original:

Raw "blacks" slider was used to darken the whole image and the background simultaneously, and the exposure slider helped in this area.

Wow, thanks for information. The difference between the original and the finished article is incredible. This image caught my eye because it almost looks like computer graphics, like one of those nVidia technical demos released with each new generation of graphics cards

If a photo can give a look into a persons soul, this one comes as close as any I've seen. Excellent work!

Your title and his expression match so perfectly. He not only looks tired from your color tones but it looks like he's had a 'tired' life also. Really cool lighting effects on the wrinkles in his skin. BB

Would rather not be cropped on top, otherwise this is very demonstrative.

More grungy than I normally care for but still an interesting portrait.

His eyes look positively spooky! I like the rest of the lighting which really shows off the texture of his face, but those eyes are creeping me out.

great capture, excellent lighting but i am not a fan of the processing. also the composition...seeing as how the light is coming from the left side, i have the impression that the crop should be tighter on the right and not on the left. otherwise, is a very dramatic shot.

For me this clearly one of the best photos in this challenge. Technically very well done, great choices in the post processing, and very good composition. But what really makes this a great photo for me is the first thought that comes into my head when I see this is Tired. I feel you really capture that emotion/feeling in this photo.

Nice lighting. The result feels like an illustration almost, perhaps its the eyes? 6
