So, in Bible, Travis (and Kristi, when she chooses to listen) has been learning about Noah and the Ark. This led to some cool science and art experiments about how colors mix together (primary and secondary) and how rainbows are formed.

Since we have finished that bit for now, we made a rainbow of the edible kind. :) The picture is actually for Trav's "school" record type thing I am keeping, but it is a slice of our day.

Now, I know that all parents think their children are just absolutely freakin' genuises, and I guess I am no exception. However, despite my thinking that my son is incredibly bright, today he surprised me.

We had finished coloring the dough (dang, I hope the food coloring comes off our hands eventually), and were rolling it into the "bows."

Trav: We need to do red first.
Me: Why?
Trav: It's the first color in the rainbow, silly.
Me: Oh. Which one is next.
Trav: Duh. Orange.
Me: How do you figure that?
Trav: Duh. (He likes this word) Orange is, like, between red and yellow.
Me: So, yellow is next.
Trav: yes.
Me: And then?
Trav: And then green, blue, and purple. Mom, your purple looks more black.
Me: yea, I know. probably needs more red.
Trav: yea. more red with the blue will make it more purple.

Now, we covered the color wheel, and the "splitting" of light to get the colors, but I never explained the correct order. How he knows it is beyond me. :)

I think I like this homeschooling thing. :)

Very cute...This will become more of a treasure as time passes, I'm sure. Kudos to you for all of the energy that you put into educating your kids. Seems like it's paying off!

Smart boy!! Love your sweet story about your adorable kiddos! I think it's delightful to see kids and parents interact together, seem's like the kids always end up teaching us something we didn't know!

homeschooling rocks .. i never did it for my daughter but my nieces and nephews were home schooled by my sister-in-law cathy .. she's my brother's wife .. anyway .. they actually got heaps more done, did it all heaps quicker and have turned out the most wonderful young adults ever .. they went to high school, but were home schooled up to when they were about 12 years old .. the idea that they dont socialise with other kids is total rubbish if the family have friends and extended family .. good on you .. it can be difficult i know, but i reckon the results will speak for themselves as they grow up with minds of their own ..
trav is definitely a genius by the way .. !! :)

That is such a cute story! Sounds to me like Travis does in fact qualify as a bona fide genius :)

I love it that you love the homeschooling as much as they do. That says alot about how succesful it will be in their lives!
I have a really great young friend I was kinda sorta mentoring for a while, and she got a full scholarship to a prestigious private university, and has now graduated with honors, and she was home schooled all her life. Never went a day to a public or private school.

Blessings on every minute of all of your quest :)
