My mom's neighbor, two doors down, had a fire the other night and the whole house was gutted. They still don't know what caused it but she said flames were shooting 20 feet into the air!!! I thought of doing a version for "photojournalism" but I suck at minimal editing.

Oh, how sad. I was depressed the other day when I thought I'd lost a lot of my image files that weren't backed up, but to lose everything in a fire would just be devasting. I hope everyone living there was okay. This definitely captures a sense of the devastation in a very photojournalistic way.

My heart goes out to them, it must be devastating to lose all your treasures.

Good shot Judy!

brilliant photograph and your processing is perfect for this .. how sad for your mom's neighbour .. i often have passing thoughts of how i'd handle my house burning down .. i think the things i'd grieve for the most would be all my work on the computer .. i've copied heaps onto dvd and gave copies to greg to have at his house just in case .. buggar tho, coz he's moved in here and all my stuff is now all together in this house !!.. i'll have to give them to my brother now who lives in the same street as me .. it'd be a total bummer tho if we had a major bush fire which wiped out both houses ... exactly a year ago we had a bush fire that nearly did just that ... !!
onfo on how i did the frame for the passenger shoots the sky is now in the photographer's comments for you judy ..
edit to put in link to that photograph so its easy for you to find .. passenger shoots the sky

Ahhh, what a shame. Such a tragedy to lose your personal belongings and entire home so suddenly. My heart goes out to her. You did a great job capturing the devastation, though.

I feel bad for them, my house burned down several years ago so I know what they are going through. At first I thought this was some sort of halloween setup. To me it seems like I can see a very tall figure in the doorway.....can you see it? Almost like he is carrying something or someone out. Creepy.

Too bad this happened, but it would have been great for the "photojournalism".

I'm sorry to hear! How horrible and scary :( You've done a fantastic job at capturing the devastation with the strong processing.

How sad. The high contrast B&W works for this shot and I like how you can see right through the house; it really shows the devastation.

I feel very badly for your neighbors, but there are some cool textures here.

Yup, B&W fits this very well. Close and stark. A terrible thing but a slice of life it seems.

Oh, what a shame. Looks like it was a neat house, too. Hope she can rebuild. BW is perfect for this. The photo makes me sad.

Auuuugggggh. . .that poor lady! What in the world is going on with all these fires ruining people's lives! :( And such a beautiful house.

I think this would have made a good photojournalism entry. But I don't do good with minimal editing (or basic editing for that matter) either.
