Totally thought this was expert editing, so I made it much better. As I went to submit noticed it was minimal. Oh well, I still have a nice edit of it for later. I'd removed dust from the glasses, and skin or whatever is on the nose, removed the shadows under the eyes as well as dodging the eyes, softened the jacket around the face, as well as the pores, and just cleaned up the skin in general.
For this, all I did was set to grayscale, resize and sharpen. It's definitely not as attractive, but oh well. Not entirely sure if it fits the subject, as it's a posed shot, but who says a posed shot can't be put on the front page of a newspaper. I've been thinking about it anyway. I may take the photo out. We'll have to see I guess.
I wish I was back home in Los Angeles. I'd try and get some photos of the fires there. But I'm in Louisiana, and it's freaking cold right now.

Would work better with some of the supposed environment in the shot. |

I only see one resident.
I am not convinced that this is Monroe, LA. |

Good closeup. Too bad you couldn't have created some cold breath trails to further emphasize your title. |

Your title totally makes me think you've just shoehorned this otherwise great shot into this challenge. Out of so many other ways to get this in ("Local artist Joe Blow has a vision" "After ten years in prison, innocent man sees freedom") you've guaranteed a slew of DNMC votes. I love the framing here - the glasses around the eyes, the hood around the face, and the whole thing off-centered. The b&w really brings the viewer to his face. |

I think this photo is more about the face than the cloths as the title suggests. The photo is good but does not really show cold/weather. Good Luck. |

Nice sharp photo, excellent use of frame, would have been cool to have icicles off glasses or fog on them. |

This concentrates on the face. Good pic, but I think the front page title and pic should concentrate more on the entire outfit. Still good pic. |

Great image but doesn't look really photojournalistic to me. I guess I think more of "out on the street" kind of shot that tells me exactly what is the story, without me having to read the title. Having said that, this is great and I like the focus, lighting and composition. |
