Taken at a fish commission lake in Sweet Valley, PA. I stopped to take a few shots for the October Slice of Life side challenge & thought maybe this would do ok. Hopefully it does alright, I know the local papers around here have had nice fall foliage scenes on or near the front page.
Straight from the camera as directed by minimal editing.

Pretty fall colors. For me, I wish it as even more saturated when you took it or that there had abeen stronger light - like at sunset.

what takes a simple photograph from boring to sublime? not an easy question and one I am stuggling to understand. This photograph doesn't tilt toward the sublime. One, it is intended to have sharp focus everywhere but has sharp focus no where. This type of shot needs to be taken from a tripod. The point of view is eye level which brings no special viewpoint. maybe shot right across the water would have been more interesting. The photo balances water, trees, sky but not in a way that is interesting. Cropping off most or all of the sky would at least bring our eyes to the foliage. Try it and see how the foliage becomes more interesting. Puttng the brightest object, the tree out of the water in the center is boring. See how the water at the left is more interesting when there are just limbs coming out of the water. I would guess that you really didn't try different angles, compositions.

Nice colors, but the cloud coverage over half the shot is a little distracting to me.

Nice using the fallen tree to creat a nice diagonal in the frame. Nice colors

Very lovely fall scene with good thirds composition on the water and hilltop. I'd like to see the whole hillside illuminated in sunlight. With the layer of clouds showing that may not have been possible.
