Interesting idea, however the shot is not so clear and detailed as to focus on texture.

i'm not sure if focusing on the back cactus was a good choice.

The shadow cast by the light is not pleasing. Colour is good, plenty of texture. Maybe if you had concentrated on a close up of the 2 on the left if would have worked better?

It's hard to tell, but either the dof is way to shallow or the focus is off.

Nothing really pops out - perhaps focusing on a smaller region of the cactus and capturing it in really clear focus would help?

Not in focus, composition/framing could be better

You should try working on the lightning, like use one light from different angles And try position the subject well in the frame, good luck

Good idea for the challenge, refine the focus and your picture will improve. Good job...

The focal point is too close to the edge.

Good idea, not too sure about your F stop though. If it had been higher you would have had more of the picture in focus. Maybe the cropping too is a little harsh, would have liked to have seen some of the edges of the cacti.

A bit out of focus for my liking

The texture is here. The subject and composition lack interest to me.

I find the close-cropping of this unuseful - and lighting from the same direction as the camera has reduced the effect of texture in the shot - try sideways lighting, you'll get mote light and shade, and more interst for the eye. Good shots of cactus are rare - I think generally because they're such lumpy ugly things.

a good subject full of sharp texture, but your focus isn't that sharp to go with it!

I think this would have worked better as a macro shot of a portion of the cactus

The idea of using a cactus is a good one. You have three main elelments but two of them are out of focus. It would be more appealing if all the main stems of the cactus were in focus. Cutting off the top of the middle cactus stem is distracting to the image..

Good idea. Maybe adjust the lighting for more shadows on the cactus surface, or backlight the spines. And a blury foreground is usually distracting.

Focus could be stronger.

Nice subject, but not very good focus

much of the pic seems to be out of focus. DOF issues?

Closer crop would do better.

Great idea, but the soft focus on the bottom part really hurts, I think. I would try to get closer to one section and really show the prickly parts up close. Also, I think a background with a richer or deeper color would be more effective.
