The bad thing about these long side challenges is that you "have" to shoot every day. Not really, but I try.

The good thing about these long side challenges is that you "have" to shoot every day. It gets the mind thinking.

Decades ago my grandfather was a carpenter for Standard Oil, which became Amoco, and then BP. I think he retired in 1973, and that's after working in their lab for years. I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb to say that these nails are really, really old. My guess is that they are Standard Oil nails ("borrowed" of course) or perhaps from when he built his home over half a century ago. I know they existed as long as I can remember. When I was younger and I felt like building something (aka just pounding a hammer!) we used these nails.

When my grandmother moved last November I "inherited" a lot of stuff like this. While I can't understand why he kept used, bent nails, I do know there are some good ones too. I recently found a nut in the nut bin and fixed Cartesia's wagon in two minutes - without all this stuff I would have had to go to the store and we were on way out to go apple picking.

There's value amongst the rust and bent nails. And memories.

i inherited a lot of this kind of stuff from my grandfather. i'm sad to say it's not been as helpful to me, though, because i would have spent more time looking for a nut than it would have taken me to go to the store. typing that out makes me feel really awful and makes me want to go organize my basement.

maybe tomorrow. :P

That's what "slice of life' is all about...an image with a little bit of your life's story in it. Nicely taken.

Intersting colors and a beautiful image. The memories they bring are what life's about. Photos that do that are priceless. Well done.

And they make quite the amazing photo too. Standing alone, this photo makes you study it and enjoy how interesting it is with the grungy rust and the appealing way the sharp nails come out of the shallow depth of blurry ones. But the story behind these nails makes it something more. A memory. Something that would take you back to the past any time you looked at it.

Yes... matted and framed this one would look quite nice!

The picture is interesting but the story really makes it so.

I'm weird. I love nails. Something about them all piled together, and the possibilities of what they can connect, to create a structure. We have bins in the garage with various sizes. I like this.

Excellent story and conclusion - I had a chain and hook of my grandfather's that I treasured. I had absolutely no use for it whatsoever, but enjoyed hanging it in the garages of the homes I lived in. Sadly, it was lost/stolen (I suspect the latter) in a move. I would love to have that back - no monetary value, just sentimental. (On that same move, the packers stole my only real jewelry, one piece of which was my grandmother's. People should be shot for stealing those things to which memories are attached.)
