Challenge: What is this Pencil? (Basic Editing)

Lens: Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di for Nikon
Location: Bloomingon, IL
Date: Oct 12, 2007
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/3200s

Date Uploaded: Oct 15, 2007

I took several shot with two different texts - "Over-sharpening can create..." and "Smart Sharpen". The second one was with a good pencil with sharp and un-broken lead. Finally decided to go with this one. (Let me wait and see if my decision is right or not).

And yes, I picked up this text up from a photoshop article in a book.

PP Steps:
- Adjusted levels
- USM
- NI
- Resized for DPC
- Saved for web

Thanks
Raj

Great idea and execution. Love the colors and that razor-sharp focus is, well, very sharp. :)

Excellent pov and dof, no doubt, but still a pencil being communicated as a pencil.

creative and nice use of selective focus. dof is nice and creamy and colors work well on the BW

Neat shot, but it remains a pencil

Very nicely done. I think this image could be a little more effective if it were more tightly cropped.

The pencil is still a pencil...so a low score for that. But if I didn't have to judge on topic I really like the DOF highlighting the words over-sharpened.

Hmmm, for me, while I like your image, the pencil isn't representative of something other than a pencil.

"However, the pencil must be used or communicated as something other than a pencil in the photo". But I like the sharpening anyway.

It's still a pencil...doesn't really meet the challenge which requires some use other than a pencil.

Good double entendre here.

Nice idea. But I'd preferred the DOF is wider, at least on the tip of the pencil.

i'm afraid this pencil is still a pencil in my eyes wich was not the intention of the challange. however, it is now a fav of mine! =)

What's the pencil functioning as? It's still just a pencil to me. In any case, I love the composition and the contrast, and I like the dual "over-sharpening" meaning - you executed that nicely.
