 I usually take my pictures from the end of the wharf on the left, but the light on the water was so beautiful this morning that I stopped and took pictures from the shoreline.

Our city has one of the last commercial fishing fleets in California, and every morning the boats file out of the harbor. How long this will last is anyone's guess. Between the expansion of marine sanctuaries, over-fishing, and attrition among the fishermen, the fleet is on its way to being an endangered species itself.

The dark thing at the right is the sand spit at the mouth of the harbor. If you look closely, you can see all the pelicans that like to hang out there.

So very lovely! Amazing ocean view (I'm a native Californian and I must admit I sure do miss the ocean) and wonderful capture of sunrise colors! I love the flock of birds on the left, but after reading your comments love even more what I now know to be the flock of pelicans sitting around -- how cool! So many of your images make me nostalgic for the CA coast... this is at the top of that list :-)

BRILLIANT photograph in every way .. such beautiful light and colours .. the silhouettes are perfect .. the glow of the rising sun is stunning .. :)

Ah, you're back home. And I LOVE the color of the light on the water. Little do people realize it really can be this color in the mornings - and the most amazing light aqua in the evenings sometimes.
