Not sure if the challenge is for only a single pencil or more than one but thought I'd take a chance that this would qualify.

Thanks for the votes and comments! This is my first entry in these challenges and it has been an interesting experience. The unsharpened wood pencils have quite a bit of texture when viewed with a macro lens so while the image was not overexposed, using levels and contrast I more or less obliterated the texture. I also added a bright yellow color to simulate the color of honeycomb.

Except for the shape I can't discover a pencil here. Of course it could be a pencil in slices, but then you're asking a lot of the imagination with this colors.

Great idea. Don't care too much for the color -- looks too yellow on my screen. I wish they were arranged a bit more neatly, so that focus is consistent throughout.

Highlights are alittle blown out, I would have liked to see more texture showing

I like the composition and the general idea of the photo. I think it could be a lot better, however, if you used a tighter aperture (for less blur) and adjusted the levels so the overall image isn't quite as yellow.
Neat pic.

I think this is the best idea, however the color seems to be a bit off.

Creative entry. I like your assimile to a honeycomb. The light seems a little too bright, or the contrast is high, not sure which. Again, good, imaginative idea.

This is a very unique idea, I think it is pretty good. There is one pencil that is set back further than the others and it really jumps out to me, maybe this was on purpose to give it more of a 3d feeling, but for some reason my eye always goes to it. Nicely done.
