Today we figured we'd stop at a state park up in Michigan before we picked up Taylor. We didn't know what to expect but I figured state parks have trails to walk on and since there's a Flora challenge and it's warm out - perfect way to spend the day.

We get there, pay our $8, and find a beach. I mention the $8 because I cannot figure out how they can charge money and have closed restrooms. We were ready to leave and come back when we found the outhouse. It was literally an outhouse, and for hundreds of people... My little rant is over.

We get directions for a trail but couldn't find it but got a nice, sweaty walk in. Back to the beach for some quick pictures before we had to leave. I was amazed at how many people were there in October and the number of boats. In the channel here there were probably a dozen or more going in and out continuously.

Everywhere were people flying kits, grilling, chilling, riding bikes, etc. What was really cool was the age of many of these people. There was a large percentage of older people, some probably at retirement age doing all of these activities. When I get this age this is what I hope to be doing.

I saw this sailboat coming and was ready for my one click and nailed it. I used the split toning during raw conversion. It was really easy to do. Then a bit of hue/sat, dodge/burn, and clone out a few birds and such.

Absolutely love what you did with this picture! You should really make this into a print. I would buy one. ;o) The yellow glow really draws the viewer into the center of the picture right where the main subjects are. Great eye and great use of patience waiting for the perfect shot.

Beautiful colors and silhouette. I appreciate your rant about paying and then finding the restrooms closed. Nothing like an outhouse though to make one glad to be living in the present age. Sounds like a fun day, though.

There seems to be some strange banding around the sun (I get the same effect on my television sometimes). I wonder if it's inherent in the photo or something to do with my monitor resolution?

Your story isn't very inviting for this place, but the photo is wonderful. I like the colors.

Classic balance on several levels: light and shadow; blue and yellow (complementary and opposites on the color wheel), land and sea, sky and land, etc. Visually the boat balances the lighthouse too, so you did good. ;~D

yellow and blue make the best mates in an image .. combined with that incredible sky and the scene this'd have to be a 10 out'v 10 for me .. the sun shining like a mad thing, the boat in the water just where the sun is shining and that gorgeous silhouette of the building on the jetty make this one hell'v a photograph .. :)
