Pantherophis guttatus, also known as the common cornsnake, is a subspecies of the Rat Snake.
Corn snakes are generally docile and make excellent pets. Their average adult length is about 1.2 to 1.8 metres (4–6 ft) fully grown, and they can live up to 20 years. They are found throughout the south-eastern and central United States as well as parts of Mexico. The name 'Corn Snake' refers to the splotched pattern on its belly, which resembles Indian maize. Some, however, believe it is because they are often found in corn fields where they search for rodent prey.

They can be found in the wild where I live in Florida, but this specimen is one that I own named Clementine. She is a "Miami-Phase" cornsnake, commonly found in the Miami-Dade County area. The Miami Phase are known for a more gray/silver background and deep burgundy saddles and can be selectively bred to express these traits. She is almost 2yrs old and will be ready to breed in 2009. You can see more of my collection (42 and counting right now) under my Pets folder in my profile.

The composition could be improved by placing the snake's head at one of the intersections of the thirds.

Pretty snake, love the colors. Focus feels a little soft on the face. Nice 'bokeh' in the background.

Prefer in vertical format and put the snake at 2/3 composition to give sense of movement...
