Challenge: Letting Go (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Kitchen Table
Date: Feb 10, 2004
Aperture: 16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1 Second

I had this concept right from the beginning but thought it may be difficult to pull off, so I left it to the last minute of course, with more time I am sure I could have done better. A long exposure with flash on my favourite glass table, letting the wind up car go as I press the shutter button. Hue was altered to give background a grey effect and make the car bluer. Cropped longways to give the feel of motion.

22nd.... I am pretty wrapped with that. Considering this was literally last minette and I just did 4 or 5 snap shots of letting this wind up car go and then nearly getting sprung (I have been told I am spending way to much time and effort into these comps, so I did it while the wife was in town.). Adjusting the colour and posting an hour before the deadline.

I was told it looks like I am catching the car…I KNOW! I am not blind ;) but the toy is a wind up one and can not go backwards, all my other toy cars are huge and wouldn’t fit into my had.

I also wanted the “letting go” theme to have a more significant meaning for this picture hence the “Slow Down – Stop holding on so tight” title which translates to. “I am addicted to speed and I need to let go” hence the fast WRX :) … I was going to make the title “letting go of the chance of my dream drive” but hell! I am driving one so it wouldn’t make sense.

Thanks for the votes.

These shots look better if you start with the car far away and then roll it to your hand. As it is, it looks as the car is travelling backwards.

interesting shot, but would have been better or at least more in line with the theme if the streaks were behind the car.

I really like how you enhanced the blue color throughout the streaks...sweet photo...how did you get the blur?

Looks like the car is rushing into the hand to me, not being "let go" of by the hand. But, that aside, I like the color choice, the reflections from the table, and the hand positioning. The background is distracting with the two colors.

Good luck.

cool idea but the background colors are too drab

That's some really interesting lighting you used (assuming this hasn't been tweaked.) I look forward to reading the description and techniques for it. Compositionally, you've captured a lot of movement and action. However, for a "feeling" of letting go, I'd imagine the car farther along with the streaks behind it. *shrug* Still fun.

Too much PS!

I might have done this a bit in reverse -- the effect you have produced makes it look like the car is speeding backwards into your hands, rather than being "let go."

My top so far, but it does look a bit more like the hand is catching than letting go.

I like your title - great metaphor for the theme. I think a different symobl would have really gotten me connected to your message. Technically a fine shot, good use of cropping and composition

cool effect. 10 points for technical achievement. however, the car is is going the wrong way. LET GO, not CATCH.

One of those "woahhh" images as far as I'm concerned. Colors are simply divine, the lighting just adds to the mood. Love it! 10. Very well done! Good luck!

Neat pic, how i see how you do it later on. I think it would be cooler if the car was to the left of the frame, or further infront of your hand........
