I took some pictures of people up in a lighthouse and I got lucky with this one. I thought I'd blown it because of some other distracting elements in the photo, but it was easy to crop them out. I predict that some people will think it's tilted and some people just won't get the photo at all. I'm hoping that some will enjoy the thematic resonance of a dwarfed hand reaching through bars on a lighthouse.

Well dang, this shot was a disappointment. I didn't think it would score well but I thought at least a few people would like it. I'm very happy that jonfrommk grokked it.

Rob, maybe you're right. A white sky. I think if I used the blue channel I could have managed that.

He looks locked away in a tower prison -- an unfortunate, lonely, little prince reaching out for human contact. Sort of makes me think of the way severe depression can keep a person trapped and isolated even on the sunniest day. I really like the b&w, the light, and the lines of this image. Nice composition.

A little weak on the title/subject tie-in for me, but the exposure, lighting, detail, and conversion are all nicely done.

this seems a bit busy, needs a stronger focal point

I find it hard to comment on this picture. It took me a long while to see the child. There are so many lines criss-crossing in the shot that the viewer quickly gets lost, nothing to hold on to. May be if the child dropped something like a stuffed animal or so. Then there would be a story to tell.

contrast is too high and the kid is just too small and too far at right side to make for an interesting subject

Very nice patterns and great tones.

Lovely B&W conversion and quite a haunting picture. The hand stretching through the railings seems very plaintive (almost as if it is stretching out to either stop a parent leaving or grasping for a balloon that has slipped from its grasp.

Super shot 8
