Greetings from the Critique Club!
The message
This is a great photo of a beautiful and vivacious woman. The outdoor setting suits her well. It doesn't quite catch the fabled "decisive moment"; her smile seems slightly forced. This gives it a bit of a "snapshotish" feeling--a photo that is well appreciated by those that know her, but doesn't make a real connection to strangers.
Creative choices
The "Golden Hour" lighting gives a great warm color to the subject. It also casts strong shadows that show the form of her face. There is enough ambient light (or perhaps you used a reflector?) to prevent the shadows from being too black. The point of view is complementary and works well here. Sharpness is just right. The landscape format is unusual for a portrait, but works well here to supply context and gives the image a more relaxed feeling.
Technical aspects
This image is technically perfect. Focus, exposure, color balance, etc. are all just right. |

Very nice as a portrait. I would even like to play around with it in duotone as you have some nice contrasts in her face. However, with no near objects to compare to it is difficult to tell if you have attained shallow dof...

| Excellent details of her face, hair and sweater. The afternoon sun lends a nice reddish tone that seems to compliment her complexion well. The background is also well blurred via DOF. Great shot! 9 |
