saw this in the tutorials, and was up for the challenge. built the laser beam breaker as described, and it worked great. I'm going to have fun with that new toy. set it up just as in the tutorial, even down to the same lens used. I'm not feeling well, so I gave up on trying to hide the little support box in the lower left. Be kind!

opened in Raw, adjusting white balance to flash. cloned out a few water drops in the glasses (those were tough to avoid), and very small reflections in the glasses. layers for levels, curves, selective color to boost saturation. added a little blur to the yellow background, and tidied up my green to black border. USM at large radius, resize, added border.

Love the lighting on this one Steve. It's good to see all those years of college are finally paying off...You will have to show me your new laser beam breaker

A very good attempt in emulating the original. Colors appear a bit dark and some portions of the glass are not as well illuminated as the original. There is something going on to the left of the composition that is giving off a red cast to the black surface. Lighting really plays a key role in helping an image pop visually. Play with your lighting set-up to make sure all objects are illuminated evenly and can be clearly visible - especially that water drop in the glass. BTW nice timing on the capture of that waterdrop as that I am sure it took many tries just to get it. The other thing in how your composition defers from the original is that you place one glass on a platform while the original relies on 'illusion' by placing one glass slightly forward while the other hangs back (if you look at his tutorial you will see the placement of the glasses Hughletheren Blue Ribbon Homage None-the-less a good photo but the lighting needs to be much better.

A deja Vu of a deja Vu. Sweet.

Nice job on getting the drop. Your colors and lighting are very good, but Hugh edges you out on sharpness.

A bit noisy and harsh on some areas.

not bad, but the lighting is a bit too warm

very well done, except for the distracting socket. Hughletheren achieved the effect only through perspective.

Haha... a deja vu of a deja vu. I prefer the greens in the original, but still must congratulate you on the capture. The drop must have been a pain to get aligned just right.

Good one. Deja Vu of a Deja Vu winner. Much better than the same one I tried to do , but ran out of time. Good job on the disected drop. Did you follow the same steps as hughletheren? I was trying to wing it handheld on the dropper. It would have been good to hide the platform the 2nd glass is on and to try to reduce the reflection on the table top.
