Challenge: Deja Vu III (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8
Location: Melbourne Australia
Date: Sep 17, 2007
Aperture: F18
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/2 second
Galleries: Black and White, Floral
Date Uploaded: Sep 16, 2007

THE IMAGE: Looked through the top images on dpc and was drawn to this image taken a few years ago. Notcied that Frank has not been active for 51 months. He shot the image with a point and shoot, which I tried as well for this shot, but went back to the trusty D200. I used natural light with a silver reflector. Camera was on a tripod and used a long exposure with f18.

PROCESSING: Desaturate, levels, USM, Noise Ninja, more selectiev sharpening and some dodging and burning. Contrast adjustment, smart sharpen, spot healed some dust.

For the name, I corrected it as I am Italian. I also preferred the square crop to Frank's panoramic shot.

PREDICTION: Not sure...flowers are a love and hate thing at dpc. The image may not be known. I like the detail and contrast. I like the roses themselves...cost me 22 bucks! A 6.4 would be nice.

POST: hoped for a 6.4 so I exceeded my expectations...thanks everyone

To a certain dgree, your 'copy' is more appealing. I think I like your lighting better, and the fact that the roses are a little more open. Great shot.

I quite like this. It doesn't have the same feel as the original but the lighting alone far surpasses it.

Wow, lovely details on this roses from the gentle swoops of the petals to the water drops adorning them. The B&W tones are stunning - you have a nice dynamic range. The roses really pop off that deep black background. Good job on this one.

Great black and white tones. Technically well done. The 2x2 composition bothers me slightly but the small offset helps. 6
