Okay, so his is WAYYYY better but I went through so much to get this photo, there's no way I couldn't enter it.

So here's the dealio...
Saw this shot, realized how close I am to this wonderful little find and thought to myself, "Hey, Cool!! I wanna do that!" Got online to find out exactly where it was, got directions from the internet & checked the tides. I knew it would have to be at high tide to get the cool effect of the water around the ship. Found out high tide was at 4:45am... UGH!! I live about an hour and a half away and I hate mornings!!!! But I decided to go for it.

I mentioned to a girlfriend what I was planning on doing and she wanted to come along. "Are you sure?? 3:30am departure time?? REALLY???? Okay then." So I grab all my stuff, tripod, flashlights, directions, jackets, umbrellas.... And off we go.

We finally get over the bridge and are getting close (or so we thought) and it started pouring down rain.... :( But we push on. Turns out our directions Sucked Arse and we're driving around in the dark, not another soul in sight looking for this shipwreck. Finally, by chance, we think we've found it but it's still completely dark out and don't much feel like meandering out onto the beach looking for a shipwreck that may or may not be there... in the rain.

We decide to head back to town and hope that we are able to find our way back. Ahhhhhh, Starbucks! YUM! We have some coffee and a donut and wait for the sun to start coming up... 6:30 rolls along. We ask the guy at Starbucks about the ship and he's like oh sure, just go blah blah blah... exactly where we were earlier in the dark. We head back, we find it (Yay!!) and it's beautiful. Doh!! Tide has gone back out already..... DAMN IT!! Take the pictures anyways, head back home, sleep, get up, edit, hate it.... entered it anyways. Such is life.

We can't all be as talented as the Ol' Doc. :)

(Okay, so I don't hate it but the water really adds a wonderful, key element to the photo and his lower angle is much better. I just wish I was able to capture it as well) I'm looking forward to going back and doing a sunset shot one day. :) Oh yeah, btw this is the Peter Iredale. ;-)

And in closing, my monitor is not calibrated so this could possibly look like complete rubbish. ;-D

Love the story. Sometimes the battle to get the picture becomes more important than the picture itself. I believe when I left home for my shot it was around 4:00AM too. :)

I have to say this is a fantastic photo and would stand on its own very well in any challenge, but comparing to DrAchoo’s original is a slightly different story. For this challenge a 7 from me.

It took me a while to find Achoos image due to the change in name. But I do like your version very much.

Nice early morning color tones, composition of elements, and sharpness of details! While it does not have the soft roll of the waves awash around this decaying boat it is still a wonderfully composed shot. A very lovely emulation on the original - well done.

I would love to have seen more color in this. It just seems dark and leaves me looking for more.

Some really cool textures that show up in your version. How long until this old ship just disappears? 8

Ilike the pinkish coloring better than Doc's blue, but I do prefer his high tide. he beats you in the sharpness category as well. This is a really nice shot in it's own right.

Although I prefer the orginal, this is also a very nice shot.

You got the composition spot on, and i'm guessing you shot at dawn (with the nice salmon sky). Too bad about the tide. :( I'm not going to vote because it's too hard not to be biased. Personally I've tried to reproduce my own shot, and I haven't been able to do it yet. One thing I'm afraid of here is the water, I feel, plays a big role in my own picture and it's missing here.

where has the water gone? like the colors here better, but you weren't lucky with tide and clouds
