Challenge: Impressionism II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Sony DSC-H9
Location: Elizabeth, Colorado
Date: Sep 5, 2007
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/40
Galleries: Nude, Photo-Impressionism
Date Uploaded: Sep 5, 2007

This picture was inspired by a painting by Edgar Germain Hilaire, by the name of Frau bei der Toilette. Meaning, woman in the bathroom. I looked through the first Impressionism challenge, and there weren't a whole lot of pictures that looked like paintings, so Im not sure how this will be received, I hope it does well.

Cropped, a little bit of cloning, adjusted lighting, applied 2 filters (dont remember which ones), add border, resize, save for web.

Post challenge: Woohoo a ribbon!! Okay, so being fairly new to DPC I did not realize until after the start of this challenge how much people dislike filters. But, you learn and you improve right? Even though I got a ribbon, and am very excited at how well this did, I almost wish I could do it over so I could try something without using a filter... next time =) This week has been quite nerve racking with having to send my photo in for validation for the first time and all of that stuff so.....Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments and votes, and thank you for helping me to learn and grow as a photographer, I have yet to be even close in skill to the people on here!

For those who asked, here is the original with some PP but no filters applied.

By the way, the name of the painter is Degas, Edgar Germain Hilaire is just his first name (long one, indeed :)). He is well known for his numerous paintings of classical dancers. And being French and not German, the name of the painting is "La toilette". ^^

Anyway, congrats for your really nice work. You made an excellent work with the filters.

This is absolutely fantastic, IMO. If I saw this hanging in a museum surrounded by famous impressionist paintings, it would totally blend in. Actually, it would probably stand out as being one of the more pleasant ones to look at!
Really well done. Must add to faves...

Congrats on the ribbon! I'm one of the people who prefers entries without such heavy filters, but don't think for a minute that means I think you somehow didn't deserve it. Everyone has their own opinions, but it's the collective vote that determines the winners, and you scored highly. Also, don't forget the importance of subject choice, composition, lighting, etc. So be proud! :)

You have nothing to apologize about with the filters. The effect is excellent, and you met the challenge perfectly. Congrats on the ribbon!

Congratulations on your ribbon. I love your composition and the lighting. I wish you could remember which filters you used. I really like the brush stroke effect, but frankly I'm not fond of the white spots. Thanks for sharing the original.

I like the effect you have here. Beautiful pose and set up and I would very much like to see the photo without the effect to see what it looks like.

How on earth did you do this? Is that a Photoshop filter? It sure looks like a painting to me. I give you the benefit of the doubt and a high score.

Femme nue après le bain by Dégas must have been your inspiration for this truly wonderful work of art. Very well done indeed. Kudos on doing a remarkable job on this.

The white specks really distract from a wonderful image. Maybe they are too bright.
