It is funny but also a little sad that almost every comment mentions the lightpost in a negative way as a distraction. In my mind, it is the lightpost which actually gives this shot a meaning beyond a trivial scenic photo, through the juxtaposition of human power and the "Higher power" (I don't mean necessarily divine, but the power of Nature).

Oh well, I guess my idea was "lost in translation" :)

I chose this as a favorite a few months ago but never commented. After reading your details, I would have to say that the light-post was one of the elements that intrigued me with this shot. It certainly made the title/picture connection, but more than that if you think of the ethereal or esoteric. I actually find the trees more of a distraction if there has to be one, but for me, the element they represent in the shot is balance. Love the cloud formation/thunderhead and the color balance across the scene - not to be religious (especially since I am very non religious) but what immediately came to mind was "on Earth as it is in Heaven." Nice shot!

Nice clouds - but the post diverts the view.

I would have loved to have seen this photo without the lightpost in it.
It distracts from the intricate details of those magnificent clouds.

Absolutely! It would work without the man-made lights.

The sodium lights seem to distract from the glorious sunset.

The man made lights distract from an otherwise scenic photo. Still an above average shot, very nice

Amazing clouds...love the sunlit updraft. Feel the lights detract from the storm's sense of power.
