Somehow your composition seems unbalanced to me. Maybe that was your intent. If the shanties are the subject, I think they need a little more room above them in the frame. I like the line of the shanties mirrored by the muddy river, but your camera position/angle just doesn't seem to fit quite right in the frame. I like the textures in this shot. The ripples in the water, the grass, the wood planks on the buildings all work very well in black and white. 6 from me. |

Ah, another different outtake on the challenge. I think this sends a very strong message, that urbanasation is not only about rich parts of a city, there still are poor parts especially in developing countries where there seems to be alot of division when it comes to wealth. I'm giving you a 9 because of that =) I love how you unsaturated as well. Only thing I'm a bit bothered about is that you cropped the top of the tree onthe left hand side out of the shot, kinda makes me feel there's a little bit missing. |

Reminds me of a Walker Evans photo. Slow shutter is interesting detail. Good tonal range. |

Nice black and white conversion. I'd like to see a bit more of the shanties and perhaps the entire trees at the top of the frame. The water is nice here and does create a good leading line through the frame but the way its composed I'd have to say this is a picture of a creek rather than a picture of shanty town.
Aside from that I am guessing you used a polarizer which has eliminated the reflections in the water. It really helps with the mood you've created here. It looks like it was an overcast day so I would have considered exposing for the grass and letting the sky blow out. There's likely no detail in the sky to rescue anyways.
Overall this is a really unique approach to this challenge and hopefully one that other DPC'ers enjoy as well. |

Cool shot, might have scored better in Rural but who knows this may be an urban setting where you live. |

I would like to see a version of this with fast shutter speed showing water reflection. |

Looks more rural, but could be an urban slum. Either way, I really like it. |
