This is still from the Urban Landscape shoot yesterday (which yielded nothing for the challenge, but gave me a bunch of interesting shots for this side).

We are getting a light rail system through downtown Phoenix. It's taking forever and it's really messing up everything down there. Though it looks as if my car (that's my car) is standing in the middle of the road, it was really standing in a construction zone.

Most of downtown is fairly deserted because of the construction and you just can't get around. Consequently, I took a lot of photographs of big empty streets with traffic cones and cement barriers - ack.

This photo includes my shooting buddy Jocelyn Fracturedstars. Every so often she would throw herself to the ground to get a better perspective. Mind you, the pavement was probably around 180 F.

There was nothing interesting on that street, but I liked the awning. It says "burn", in case you didn't catch that.

I did all manner of processing on this. The light was extremely harsh. Used filters, painted stuff black, blurred the background, added soft glow, desaturated a bit, etc, etc. Can't remember all the steps.

You know, betterphoto.com is having a monthly theme contest of "people taking pictures" - and this would be perfect for that challenge. You ought to check it out.

Man she really gets into taking her photos lol. I'm just thinking about how long it would take me to get up from a position like that.

Good job on the processing. I really like seeing pictures of other photographers in action - it reminds me of how silly I must look when I'm doing similar!

Phoenix in August. I remember it well. Say no more.

Very cool processing and capture of your friend. Weird and wonderful.

Quite a strange (in a good way) photo. Before I saw the camera, I thought she was throwing her arms up to avoid being hit. Then it seemed like she was worshipping the car. Now that I know how hot the pavement is, I admire your friend's persistence in getting the shot - and yours, too. Good job on the post-processing!

If you didn't notice the camera, it is almost like she is shielding herself from being run over!

I have been downtown a few time since the light rail construction started, and you are very accurate in your assessment. I found my best stuff at the bus station, at least there are some interesting characters.
