I really like this photo. Very crisp with nice lighting. I would prefer to see the whole truck in focus, but this works. I wish I could do as well with my night shots.

Greetings from the critique club :)

Hi dtouch1...

I think you did a good job with the painting with light here... For me, the shallow depth of field doesn't really work well in this photo. I don't see any particular need for it and it doesn't really isolate any specific point of interest in the image. The balance could also be a bit better with a little light on the left side of the truck so it doesn't seem void in that area....

Interesting shot but could do with more depth of field. So much of it is in focus I think it would be worth getting the rest.
I have copied this note onto a few others.

My only concern is, as you may have guessed from the amount of discussion on the forum re "painting with light" is whether it is painting with light.
Having been lucky enough to judge what is now a few hundred competitions in the last 30 years I feel I should say the first thing that happens is that they are sorted and any that do not immediatly seem to fit the category are dumped (hard but a fact). This is why so many competitions also run an "open category". Your picture, as good as it is, would, I feel have been rejected at this stage. "Painting with Light" has a fairly tight definition in photography but still allows a lot of lattitude for creativity.
I suspect that your scores may not reflect what the picture is worth which is a great shame. I believe if I was judging in another category I would have gone for a 7.
I do hope you understand my reasons for marking it down

Nice clarity here, I like how the front fades to black.
