On the last entry day for this challenge, I was walking passed my new succulant/cactus garden in the late afternoon, and I was amazed by the shadows falling down onto my new garden.

This was due to the stairs at the back of our house.

They fell dirrectly in this wonderful pattern, against the reed blinds at the back of this succulant/cactus garden.

I didn't even have my camera with me, so I had to climb the stairs to get it, to take this dramatic photo.

Normal processing on this one, with raw and photoshop, with the exception of changing it to black and white, with gradient map.

This gave me the strong dramatic effect gradient map brings, which is what I was looking for.

Also quite a lot of burning, in the shadow areas, to make the blacks really black.

I think this one would even pass for Basic rules.

Thanks for that comment, and alot of people thought it was blown, re the whites, but when converted to gradient map, this is how it turned out, and I really like the HIGH KEY approach. I left it like this, as a strong black and white image, you see here.

Also many thenks for all of your wonderful comments throughout the challenge, and also after the results. I am pleasd with this one as I thinl it may be my first black and white image entered into a challenge before. U wanted it to be dramatic.....

A beautiful shot, but to me... the contrast is just too harsh for the shot. That is the only complaint I have. Good job! (7)

I love the high contrast B&W. Because of it's content (succulents), I'm gonna guess sherpet. ??

I like photos like this. Your use of shadows tales an ordinary subject and adds interest and makes it extraordinary.

Stunning shadows create an image where shadows are the subject. Great capture.

alot of shadows here, but I don't think they really add to the image. Other parts are a bit blown

Too much contrast IMO

The composition of this photo is AMAZING especially with the alternating shadows, where something in the foreground is shaded against a sunlit background and vise versa. I think the choice of black and white is perfect, making the contrast that much more intense and really capturing the shadows in a way that most people might not have even thought of.

Not enough creativity - just a simple shot put into high contrast?

I like this - the sharply contrasting tones makes it look very artsy.
