 I had intended to post something more unique that really showed the character of my neighborhood, but ended up choosing another sky shot. But in a way, these sky shots do illustrate the uniqueness of the ever-changing and interesting New Mexico skies -- interesting to me, anyway :-)

This was taken about 5 miles down the road from where I live. I didn't even see this solar halo until I processed the shot, which is an HDR image composed of three exposures. This is a partial 22 degree halo which is created when sunlight is refracted and reflected by ice crystals in the atmosphere. I think there is a partial upper tangent arc as well (the little bit of color that goes up from the circle to the right at the top).

incredible sky ... i love the way the sky is taking up most of the image and the land is just about dwarfed by it .. this is a beautiful photograph .. :)
