"Is this the top of the world??". That's what Taylor said to me with a look of amazement a year ago. This is after we got up an hour before sunrise, drove out to the dunes, hiked in the dark with a flashlight for a half hour, and made it for sunrise on top of the "blowout". On the way there and especially the way back we kept stopping because of sand in her shoes, tiredness, hunger, etc.
So today the whole family decides to visit the blowout. Instead of wanting to stop, we couldn't keep up with her. When we got close, and especially when we were there, it was, "come on guys!". She was an old pro at the blowout. This is one of the first pictures I took and had the camera set in aperture priority mode so it set shutter at 1/30. That along with the pan made it a bit blurry, but it kind of sums how she embraced the "top of the world" today.
So after 2 1/2 hours we arrived back at the car, sweaty, sandy, and smelling of bug spray. Even our 3 year old made it with energy to spare, although she ended up with two blisters. :(
Processing was crop, hue/sat, Lucisarts, and sharpen.
Straight from camera to put "the top of the world" into perspective.
Great story. That's what I love about kids - they do such a good job of reminding us how interesting life is. This photo does a nice job of conveying her energy at that moment.
This is an wonderful shot. Have you visited the blur side challenge thread? This would so go there. I love how her one knee and part of her face are in focus. The photo really conveys the exuberance of the moment. Awesome! Story is great, too - thanks for sharing.
I love the fact that to your daughter that the blow out truely did seem like the top of the world and that her slight apprehension was replaced by a simple love of the place on your second visit
Truely a story that made me smile and a great picture capturing the speed and energy of youth
