Given that I moved temporarily to the Middle East this month, I didn't have a lot to choose from. I did quite like the penguins (see my Europe GTG folder) but this one is personally significant, if not photographically suited to DPC. This is the Starbucks in the camp I'm at. It's an honest to goodness Starbucks, not a "we proudly brew", and is truly an oasis. I do indeed realize that it's blown - it's quite amazing just how bright it is here. The gentleman is a coworker of mine - I told him he was going to be in a challenge and he got a kick out of that.

I did go back and re-edit, using two versions of the file - one very underexposed from the RAW file. It did bring out more detail and cut down on the "blown" part a lot, but it didn't have the same feel to it that this version does.

This shot is awesome! Of course it's perfect in b&w and I love the contrast but most of all I love that it tells a story - gives me the slightest little glimpse into the lives of folks in an unfamiliar situation being able to enjoy a little smidgeon of the familiar. I even like that the light coming in the windows obliterates any details of the outside world - hopefully this place serves to do that for these soldiers - even if just for a minute. Very nice. Adding to favorites.

I am so glad you have this comfort from home where you are. Sometimes I feel if I can just have a Starbucks, all will be well with the world no matter what is going on around me. I really like that high key bright area. It reminds me of light and sunshine. I love that he's dressed in his cammy's too. I really like this photo alot! I'm glad you entered it!

I was kind of wondering if this was you, but then I didn't see any beach, so figured - not Deb!

I am amazed that they have a Starbucks there. How interesting and wonderful for you guys. I like the lighting you captured on the shelves there.

LOL - your title makes me chuckle. Good black & white, maybe a little overblown on the right, but still nice.

The windows are really blown out, and with advanced editing you could have done something about that. I'm not sure if the focal point is supposed to be the rows of mugs or the guy on the phone, who is partially washed out and looking the other way.

I love it. People will surely criticize the blown windows but I think they're perfect. Nice balance in the composition and an elegant conversion to BW.
