This picture was taken of two gentlemen at Herman park in Houston, TX. The two were sitting on a wall conversing on a friday afternoon after work like old friends do. This photo is meant to capture the contrast between them. Everything between the way they dressed, ethnicity and the position of their eyes when I shot this picture. One looks straight at the camera and the other did not. However the one thing they had in common was age and experience. I spoke with them afterwards and I found out that the two have known each other for a long time and have been meeting at Herman park for 20 years. Despite their differences, they are friends for life.

Greetings from the Critique Club

First of all congratulations on a new PB.

i am going to list the pros and the cons of the picture in my opinion of course:

pros:
when i first looked at it, the shot made me wonder on what's the story behind these two , are they friends, are they foes, are they stranger.
and this is what a good street photographer should do (in my opinion of course) , be able to intrigue the viewer, and you def. achieved that in your shot.
as far as technical stuff go the composition is good , and focus is perfect.

cons:

like one of the commenters said, the tree in the back is distracting, it pulls you away from both person. perhaps you could have added a layer to blur more the background.
the black and white conversion needs some work, the colors are a bit flat, more contrast would have def. gave this more impact, probably playing more with curves, or brightness/contrast.
finally, althought the shot intrigues the viewer, it lacks the candid factor and i think that's what hurt your score the most.

overall i think you did a great job, a 5.7 is a good score here at DPC, hope you keep it up.

cheers,

Hassan

Nice capture - Like the sharpness and non emotional poses. Something different about this.

I really like this photo a lot. Makes me hope it is really candid and if it is then the title doesn't make sense but the title makes the photo better so I'm just going to pretend they are old friends and this is posed and it doesn't meet the challenge so you get an 8 anyway. Make sense?
