OK well before I bore you rigid with todays photo a little bit of feedback from the very cool and funny series of comments I got from yesterdays shot

Firstly wronp...I fear that you may be right...It aint the equipment its the operator, so instead of blaming the Vivitar I should shoulder the responsibility of any dodgy photos myself

Secondly rachelellen @mad world...yes very aposite lyrics. I love that song (and you were right it was Tears for Fears who did the original (and in my opinion better) version of it

Thirdly cfarrell The Will Ferrell comment made be laugh out loud. I dont know what impression I have given but let me confirm I have NEVER worn tights and a pointy hat

Fourthly wronp (again) and in a way colorcarnival and kellyrc01. I loved the idea of going howdy to people and yes my sense of humour is such that I like doing stuff like that for the reaction, so this morning instead of just smiling I did say 'howdy' with a big smile on my face to three different people...Three great reactions as one just looked through me as if I wasnt there, another genuinely jumped about a foot in the air and muttered 'nutter' at me but the last one (who I also held a door open for) actually thanked me and gave me a nice smile (together with a somewhat embarrased 'good morning') back

Anyhooooooo

If you walk up Hatton Garden past the pawnbrokers you see these two characters up high on a wall (well you do if you are looking for them). This building on the corner of Hatton Garden and Cross Street was alledgedly designed by Sir Christopher Wren (who also designed St Pauls Cathedrel) in 1690. It was a charitable bluecoat school which was for the children of the workers in the jewellery trade. The interior of the building was damaged by bombs during WW2 and are now offices but these statues (of children in the old Bluecoat uniform) remain outside as a reminder of the buildings historic past. If you go up to my offices and lean out of my window looking right, whack your camera on 42* digital zoom (I had the canon with me today) then this is what you get

Haha, I'm glad to hear you finally got through to someone with your "howdy", maybe you started a whole howdy revolution :) There are so many interesting stories there about various landmarks, it's really cool! This would be a great view to see, I really like how they seem worn & you can tell there's a history there. Thanks for sharing!

What a cool architectural detail. I like that most people probably don't see it. Nice catch, Jon.

Way to go Jon. I'm going to have to send you a cowboy hat so you can tip your hat to the ladies. Nice shot of the statues, they are really cool.

Those things are so cool - they look tiny until you realize they're actually on a building. The colors & lighting all work well together.

Hmmm.... pointy hat and tights? No... sorry. But now it's vividly in my mind! LOL :)

I'm getting the impression that you just sit around work looking out your window... hmm... doesn't sound like you get much done, except taking lovely pics. of the street below your office.

Ok, nice composition, I like the amazing texture of the girl's apron, it really gives the image the history it deserves. Also, great capture of her reflection in the window. Very nice.

Looks good to me! Lovely statues, such a gorgeous blue. Clumsy or not, please don't tumble out the window for the sake of your photography.

I don't go quite so far here in this other world capital, though I do sometimes feel like the village idiot as I find myself smiling at all sorts of people.

Glad to see they are tied securely. I bet they have the most interesting conversations. Or they would if they could talk. they look a bit pale, though, must be using too strong a sunscreen.

another great read and another great shot ... and if you do put yourself out there and actually smile and say hi to total strangers you'll get so many different reactions .. i find that the positive ones far outweigh the ones that are negative .. to have a nice moment with a total stranger is just excellent ... :)

You are just itching to drop another camera, aren't you?

These are interesting pieces of work. I'm curious as to whether these two were more prominent when they were first placed on the building. Sounds like people might find it as an oddity now? At least it looks like they are being taken care of. They look like they are in good condition. Oh I see there are spotlights. Must be interesting to see these at night.

Interesting story, Jon. Thanks for telling it. I'm glad these figures survived WWII. Interesting, also, that it looks like the girls attended the same school (at least the same building) as the boys.
