We had an incredible amount of rain last night and even flash flood warnings in the South part of our county - first I've seen that happen. So today I figured I'd go running if I could since the trail may be muddy and they predicted more rain.

No rain while I ran and even though it was not hot, the dewpoint was about 69F. The best test of how uncomfortable it is outside is the dewpoint since it takes into consideration the heat and humidity. [Weather Fact: when the temperature drops below the dewpoint you get fog.]

Anyway, run was tough because unless I ran really fast and didn't stop, I'd get attacked by bugs. In my hair. When I had to take a break and walk, I literally had to keep running hand through my hair to keep the bugs out. I must have smelled good or something. But it helped me along because I ran harder and had a few minutes for pictures.

I eat my lunch quickly, then get camera. I had problems with the exposure since the sky was white and it was dark in woods. By the time I got it set and did exposure bracketing for HDR/tonemapping, the rain came. You can see the drop in the picture.

I did very little pp except for Photomatix. A bit of levels and hue/sat, and crop of course. I'm becoming quite the fan of using Smart Sharpen but with a very small radius (around 0.3) and larger percentage. It seems to give a more detailed look without the artifacts.

i can so identify with the 'problems' you had today ... it happens so much that you see something you want to photograph but its a case of .. sheeeeeeesh .. i've gotta remove the lens cap, check the iso, make sure the settings are ok with exposure etc .. by which time wotever you wanted to photograph is gone !!! ... i usually shoot totally manual, but sometimes aperture priority would'v been better for speed .. oh well, live and learn eh? ..
this scene that you've photographed looks so much like where i live altho a lot more rainforesty .. if we had HEAPS more rain the firetrail i walk on could look like this in parts ... those trees look absolutely beautiful with their dark dark trunks and the vibrant greens .. you must get so many fantastic photographs along this track .. and if its anything like the firetrail i walk on, it would be different every single day ... a bit like different moods ... i love smart sharpen too .. i dont use USM at all now .. :)

This is georgeous! What a beautiful place to run! I really like the green plants in front that are out of focus, it give the photo a movement feel to it, like you are running through, very cool!

This looks very similar to a place here where I used to ride my mountain bike. Looks like I could ride right into this photo. great composition.

Looks like a beautiful place to run! I love all the greens. I bet this is a nice place to be in the fall too.

Was it windy as well? Looks like motion blur on the right - but it gives the pic a soft moody feel. Nice!

Looks like a fairy tale forest. I can't imagine all that humidity and the bugs - yack! And you run in it? How commendable. Love this photo. And you tell a good story, too.
