Sadako Sasaki, was a child who survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. She tragically later developed leukemia. While hospitalised she believed that if she created 1,000 origami cranes she would be granted a wish

Sadly she died before she could complete the project but the origami crane has become a symbol for peace and hope

I visited Japan in 2002 during the Football (Soccer) world cup. It remains the most amzing country I have seen. A place where you are treated with the utmost respect and courtesy but where you will ultimately be considered 'gaijin' - A foreigner.

One day I met a couple of people who were young and incredibly trendy, I ended up speaking to them and talking about Japan and its strange mix of ultra modern and uultra tradition. I asked them if they felt connected to the ancient japanese arts and one of them responded by producing this crane. No instructions, no guides, she just had origami paper in her bag and made it. It now resides in my house a wonderful memory of a wonderful country

My guess is I may get punished by the voters because of the background (no lihting or light box I am afraid) which is actually sheets my own of origami paper as from time to time I produce my own figures (but always using guides and never with the precision of this one)

If you want to try and make a paper crane then there are many instructional videos on the web check them out on google or just go for this one

I like the composition with the tail starting in the corner. I like that the crane is floating on a sea of origami paper. Beautifully matches the title.

This is quite amazing, and I actually read this story when I was in the 4th grade, or about 10 years old. Very inspiring, to say the least. Very impressive and lovely image.

I really like the composition and the different patterns in the origami paper, but the lighting looks a little flat.

I think the light comes from the wrong side in this case.

The business of the background coupled with the point of view of the camera takes a bit away from the subject.

Makes me think of the origami kits I've owned. I always enjoyed contemplating the potential of all those interesting pieces of paper, but was never very pleased with them once I'd mangled them into some three-dimensional form.

Nice setup, but I'd like to see more light on the crane, and less on the background.

IMO the colours here seem a little washed out
