My daughter eating s'mores this afternoon. I was going to post a more "artsy" picture, but I decided I wanted to preserve this memory, and since I am woefully behind on my children's scrapbooks (Travis is 5, I have his name in the front of his), I figured this was probably the only way to do it.

While we were sitting around the fire, Kristi kept asking for "washmelon." Since there was a watermelon there, we thought that was what she wanted. "NO. Washmelon." After a few minutes, she picked up the bag of marshmallows and said, "Me want a washmelon."

Well, I thought it was cute.

Washmelon, anyone?

oh how cute! I love how they come up with their own little words. And it is so much fun to now create photos to go with the story. The washmelon looks yummy! Thanks for sharing this - I love stories like these.

The things they say! Now see if you call them washmelons long after she outgrows the term. (My son is eleven, and we still call several things by his old names for them. Sometimes, embarrassingly enough, in front of other adults. We eat mambingers and fwies, in the zitchen but never on the zouch, and for some reason we could never figure out, when we eat Raisin Bran, it has "meem-wees" in it.)

She's lovely. What a great candid.

S'mores! :-)

Nice story and a really nice photo to go with it. This brings back many sweet memories. Your daughter is such a pretty little girl, I remember when my little sister was this age, a pretty child also and her hair was just as blonde and fine.

PS: Germaine's comment prompts me to add, in our family we also still call it pssghetti. The funniest came from my brother, who asked for more "Present Day" jelly. A big puzzler until we ID'd the jar of "Currant" jelly in the refrigerator. :-)

Lovely shot of the little girl. If it weren't for the hand, this would be good in the natural light portrait contest, but then the hand is part of the story.

Washmelon? Love it. That will be the family word for marshmallow from now on.

In our family we still eat psguetti and hankeburs, and read mazagines -- all from my 30 year old son when he was learning to talk.

Another great shot of one of your children (I cant believe your scrapbook is not up to date!!!)

A wonderful story, and I have the feeling that when Kristi is 20 you are still going to always use the word washmelons to her when talking about marshmallows

Great story super image

This one is really special. My daughter is similar in age, and these days she wants a "Toetart" for breakfast. That's a Poptart to the rest of us.
