 Taken at the Calgary Zoo on January 12th...first day of the Challenge (which is a first for me). I needed a serious escape from people that day, and the zoo seemed like the ideal location. I spent a lot of time with this girl. She wasn't too impressed with me I don't think, and kept giving me that look.

It was late in the day and the light was horrible, so it took some doing. I bumped the ISO to 400, and tried several 4-shot bursts to get the clarity of this image.
The colour in the original was really flat (link at the bottom) so I did a little photoshopping; curves mostly, crop, little increase in saturation, colour balance away from green, and a little dodging (the only thing that wouldn't have met the 'old' rules

Alecia helped me a lot with the post shot adjustment concepts...I know the techniques, but she's got the eye.

This was my top animal shot of the challenge! I was sure this was gonna place red after my blue ;-) .. just goes to show you. LOL

Very nice feel to this shot...the colors, DOF, cropping all are perfect! Little more expression in the eyes, with a little more reflection would have helped...but not always possible.

What a look indeed. The DOF works well to distinguish the subject from the background even though they are the same color. I might crop the top and make it a more square composition.

Another well done big cat. We have one trotting around the county somewhere, but I don't want to go look for him. Excellent composition, color, and lighting. Great capture on the expression also.

Striking photograph. Would have tried cropping the top part off? Also, because the subject color and the background color are so similar, perhaps only saturate the subject and not the background? Just some suggestions... Great expression on the cat.

You need a title that would warrant a NG picture. Something like "Mountain Lions of the West"

I love the nature shots! This one is so pretty! Even though there are not alot of different colors - I like the variations of browns you have here. The focus on the photo is great, and the look on his face is great! 10

Crop can be tighter on top. But this shot is good because of the shallow DOF. Very well-seen.
