====================================

This is my husband, who has always wanted a straight forward portrait of himself. I'm glad to say he loves this one. He posed for the challenge, but not specifically for this intense effect. This is just one of a series of shots from that sitting. I just put him in a good place and asked him to turn his head in different directions and to look in different places. For this shot I asked him to look straight at the camera.

I'm delighted with the response to this and all the comments. Thanks everyone.

And I am proud to report that I got the Team Suck award for beating Larus.

What an amazing man, so full of character, and gee, he is your husband, and with such a great face to capture.
I love the rugged textures that you have captured here, awesome detail and color tones, and also that stern look, as it really make this image pop. A truly great portrait of your dear husband.
You should be very proud. Thank you.

He looks like a sea captain or some author who's name escapes me. This is a great photo! There is so much character in his face. The lighting is awesome. Congrats on the score!

Congrats. Husbands with great beards are very good indeed. And it comes thru in this shot. You've done well, I hope he enjoys this gift.
I'm very proud of you and your fine finish and for beating Larus, too.

A great portrait, wonderful character, beautiful face - an older Ernest Hemingway immediately comes to mind.

This is amazing! Do you know him? Was he posing to look so intense? Or did you just capture him like that?

Excellent photo in character and deep-to-the-soul interest!
