OK today was Daisy's sports day.

Crazily I only found out about this last night, which I guess may be down to the fact that given all the rain we have been having it was not certain whether it would be going ahead.

When I spoke to Daisy yesterday and she told me about it I said I might not be able to make it and she said rather plaintively 'try if you can dad' which meant I was up with the larks this morning. Travelled into London did some work in the office went across town for a meeting (which was held with perhaps 1 of my eyes being on the clock). Zipped back to Euston and managed to get a fast train to Milton Keynes and was there just at for the start of the event (feeling very grateful to Ev for volunteering to cover any issues for me that might arise at work), the upshot is, because we have got a couple of deadlines looming its going to be a very very late night. But just seeing the smile on Daisy's face as I strolled onto the playing fields (looking somewhat incongrous in my suit and tie) made it any minor hassle I had been through totally worth it.

This shot is from the sack race, and Daisy is the child with the yellow top who is catching big air. She also took part in the sprint relay and came a very creditable second and her team (the yellows) finished second overall in the team event (damn those pesky reds who pipped them for the trophy)

The momory of a late night will soon pass, but the memory of sharing this afternoon with Daisy will be with me forever.

A few Outtakes

I'm glad we're not the only mad nation that has these races! I have a little brother who does these still and they are a lot of fun, it looks like a great day out!

Way to go dad! The day will mean so much more to her because you were there to share it with her.

She's got more vertical lift than I have :)

A great action shot with vibrant color.

Aww, you really will cherish this day with Daisy, I still remember days my dad & I spent together when I was little. She's a jumper, look at all that air!! This is a great photo, I used to love field days (that's what we called them).

What a great story to go along with this fantastic image! This is really fun, I love how each of the girl's hair is airborne, and your Daisy sure can jump! It is nice to see a picture of folks having fun :-)

Great action shot of Daisy in the race. I kind of wish the background wasn't so busy, because you really caught a good jump. OTOH, that's the way it was. (The notes are good, too.)

I'm so glad you were able to make it back to see her. There some who would have said "It's JUST a field day" (we call them field days in the states), but to her, it was much, much more than that!!

WOW, cool story Jon! Yes, you and she will remember this day for life. Enjoy every minute you can with her Jon, they grow up so fast! Great shot too! Nice color and depth on an obviously overcast day, much like it's been here again.

Great story and great pics. Here in the States we'd say: "You-da-man!"
It's nice to realize that the hassles we face for our kids pale in comparison to the joy they bring us.

What a spectacular catch! Getting her in the air like that was great timing. There's a kid on the left with his hands on his head that is just making me laugh. A really fun photo to look at!

You're a good dad Jon and I think this memory will also be with Daisy as well. :)

She DID get some monster air there! Maybe her future should be in sack races, huh? That's a great story. No doubt, worth every sec. to her as well as you. Great to make those events. Very lovely image you captured as well, Jon. Beautiful.

Well, this is entirely too sweet! What a devoted dad you are. Before I even read the story, I knew the one jumping highest was Daisy. I think we're all getting to know her - and love her, too!

Great shots - looks like they were all having a blast. Get yourself a nice espresso to get through the late working.
