The BG is the scene reflected in mylar. The FG is a detail shot combined to create depth.

For anyone who wonders what is mylar: think metallic helium baloon. Mylar is a sheet of crisp thin plastic w/a metallic reflective finish.

Im seeing some dark lines in the background above the flower. I would probably clone those. The mylar effect is really fascinating and I love how it turned out. The border is nice imo. but it doesn't nessesarily need it.

Cool effect! I like the way you have the lower petal over the frame.

hootchie mama! :)
very cool effect * your image is beautiful. the colors are so soft & strong @ the same time. I sort of agree with Lynnmarie about a tad more negative space-how about just rotate the image 90degrees? the frame reminds me of a mirror tray my mom kept on her bedroom dresser for just about ever...

I already loved this flower from your day 8 but this is sensational. Don't care for the border but don't hate it. Okay, stupid question, but what actually is mylar?

I like the angle you have positioned your lily, but I feel as if it is falling out of the picture. Perhaps it just needs a bit more negative space below it. Frame is not needed, IMO.

Very interesting effect and a lovely shot. I don't think the border is either necessary or helpful, but others may disagree.

The mylar effect is a piece of foamcore w/a sheet of mylar glued on. Sometimes I use aluminum foil. I position it to get an interesting reflection & then shoot the mylar. The scene is flattened on the reflecting surface & distorted according to the material used. The flower was shot against a piece of black foamcore.

I respect that a border is not liked by all. I usually add one when I want to keep the eye inside the frame. There wasn't much eye movement in this comp to begin with, so the border was my way of making that 'sharper.'

Keep on clickin'!

I going to have to see if I can do that mylar thing. Really like the effect. I also like how you did the bottom border on this shot. Very nice.

Looks like the flower is jumping off the page. Love that 3D effect.
