Day 7 of 30 Floral Things

Looks like a sea urchin to me! Don't know what it really is (found it in a dry "wetlands" area in Virginia). Was actually looking for wildlife at the time so had my big zoom + teleconverter on. Turns out it does decent flower pix if you stand far enough away, but that does rather limit the angles you can take the picture from unless there's a handy tree or something to climb. Which there wasn't. Perfectly happy with this shot, though it wasn't the angle I liked best from eyeballing the floral thingy.

PP - converted from RAW, slight rotation, crop, increased saturation and contrast, USM, added border, resized, sharpened.

Very nice, and the leaf in back seems to almost be cradling the little sea urchin too.

I think all of my flower shots are taken with the 90-300. Yes you have to stand far enough away and can't get some of the angle but it really adds dof. the only reason I've been using it really though is cause I knew it worked fine and I was too lazy to change to the kit lense. I might do that today though cause there's a flower in my yard that I want to get above and shoot down on it.

I think this could use a bit better focus but it is an interesting flower. Looks like it might be some kind of thistle maybe?

Exactly! That's what I thought of, too, before I read your title. Focus is excellent, and that curving leaf in the background adds just the right amount of interest. I really like this.

What a strange flower. It really does resemble an urchin.
A very good shot technically.

Good shot. I have tried to get a good shot of one of these but have not been successful yet.

Interesting little flower! How big is it in real life? I admire anyone who can capture a white flower without blowout! I am having a tough time with that.
