Day 3
Moon flower. Datura inoxia.
Pretty much an invasive weed. This bud opens into a huge trumpet flower of Georgia O'Keeffe style femininity 4" inches across or larger. The seed pod is about the size of an egg and covered with evil spines. It ripens from green to brown and splits open to reveal a white satin lining and shiny black seeds. The plant gets about 4feet tall in a good year,(maybe larger in the South). An amazing beautiful plant that I always find slightly frightening. The seeds art poisonous and hallucinogenic.

I'll try to visit this plant throughout the summer.
7/3 Went back tonight, but the early afternoon storm mashed today's flowers.
Will try sunday.

Last summer, same plant, different camera

Oh cool, I get to see the beginning of the flower from the spiny ball I shot. That was in my sister's garden and I've never seen the flower from it.
Love the shot ... the composition, the color, etc.

what a llovely plant & the capture of the curling/unfirling petals is great. Please try & shoot it when it's opened! I'd love to see it. Thanks also for the info about the plant! watch out for those seeds!

Love these flowers, you can get good shots of bees if you get up early.

Very nice all 'round! This will be a fascinating one to watch develop. Hallucinogenic, huh? Something else I learned today!

This is so interesting to look at! I love the control you had on the dof and placing it just where you want it. I can't wait to see more of this flower as it opens.

This is the great thing about this 30-day challenge - we get to see things not normally seen.
This is one I have never seen and will have to keep my eyes open at the nursery.

I really like the way those petals spiral around each other.
This looks just like a plant that grows around here called Buffalo-gourd. Very similar to an entry I made in the purple challenge last fall (a bit of a stretch for the challenge and my centered comp failed miserably)

I'd be curious to see what yours looks like fully opened.
